Welcome to Don DeBold's Home Page
About This Site
This is my page to share some of the things that I like to do and some of the causes I support. My hobbies include:
Some of the things important to me:
- Wolf Haven - provides a sanctuary for wolves that were raised in captivity, educates the public on wolf and wildlife issues, and promotes wolf restoration to their historic ranges. For several years I was one of many sponsors of Moose, who died in 2003. Currently I am a sponsor of Cherokee.
- Individual Rights in the Digital Age. Legislation such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the aggressive tactics used by Hollywood to prevent what they perceive as theft of their intellectual property threaten the rights of individuals in the digital age. Our legislators just don't get it and tend to side with Hollywood and the media industry. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is working to defend my rights and yours.
- Fair Elections - did Dubya really win this last election? Probably, but there were plenty of problems at the polls. This country needs to have a standardized e-voting process that includes an audit trail. Since the disaster of 2000 we had 4 years to develop one, but we blew it. Let's make sure it doesn't happen again in 2008. For more information see EFF's Verify the Vote page, or the BlackBoxVoting.org website.
Miscellaneous Links
I enjoy hiking and bike riding in South Bay parks. A couple years ago I wrote a review of Bay Area trail books in the Spring 2003 Trail Companion for the Trail Center.
I currently host my photos on both Flickr and Smugmug.
Why do I use two sites? Smugmug provides a much better environment for showcasing photos and managing galleries.
As a power user you can completely control the look and feel, utilizing any of the available preset themes,
or replacing the pages with those of your own design. It's really cool, but it's missing a couple of things that Flickr offers
- a large community and lots of traffic. On Flickr my photos get a lot more exposure, more feedback from the
various communities, and get picked and get published a lot more often than from Smugmug.
(All my online photos are posted wtih the Creative Commons Share Alike license). So, for now I'm using both sites.
I am the moderator of a Yahoo group devoted to Nikon Digital Photography software, such as Nikon CaptureNX, ViewNX, etc.
